He was born on December 6, 1946, to Richard William Petrie and Helen K. Petrie in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Ric attended University Laboratory School graduating in 1964, and went on to attend LSU, graduating with an accounting degree in 1969, where he was a proud member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. As a student, he joined the Army and upon graduation became a Captain stationed at Ramstein Air Base, Germany from 1970-1973. Returning stateside, he was stationed at Fort Bliss, TX, until retiring from the Army in 1976. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal during his service. He married the love of his life, Susan McCord, on June 1, 1968, in New Orleans, LA. They were blessed with two daughters, Jenny and Anne. In 1976, Ric went to work at Proctor & Gamble in Bossier City, LA. He moved back home to Baton Rouge in 1978, and started as a Trust Officer at Fidelity National Bank. He then became the head of the Trust Department at Capital Bank & Trust until 1995, when he left to work as a Financial Advisor at Morgan Keegan for eleven years. Finally, he became a Business & Contracts Manager at B&I Services until retirement in 2009. An avid LSU fan, golfer and hunter, he enjoyed the simple things in life- being in the outdoors, watching baseball, a good vodka martini with olives, playing a board game and grilling at home for family and friends. He was a wonderful story teller and the rock of our family with his firm and steady nature. He will be remembered as the ultimate gentleman for his endless kindness, patience, hearty laugh, solid advice and care for others.
In his words.... What this whole life is about is to have a few friends left who can say "he was a good man". Ric is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Susan Petrie, his daughters Jennifer Leach and Anne Underwood, son-in-law's Claude Leach and Clay Underwood, grandchildren Jackson, Miller and Chalkley Leach and Avery and Philip Underwood.
