Rita Mae G. Fletcher, we know you Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother 'Sis', Favorite Aunt, God Mother, Best Friend, and special to all who you have touched in your long, loving life. We will remember that you walked through life on your own terms until the end of the road. Rita Mae departed this life on July 24, 2021, surrounded by the loved ones and the love of her entire family. She was 91 years old, born on August 5, 1929 in Baton Rouge, LA. She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph Roland "Chegg" and Amelia Guerin; her sisters, Vera Liddell and Margaret "Teet" Chevalier; her ex-husband and father of her children, D. O. Fletcher; and her life partner, Ronald Cummins. Rita is survived by her five children: Donna Ryan and spouse, Dennis Ryan, Colonial Beach, VA; Ellen Fletcher, Mandeville, LA, Chris Fletcher and spouse, Sveta Fletcher, Houston, TX, Colin Fletcher, Dallas, TX, Clay Fletcher and spouse, Sheila Fletcher, Slaughter, LA; her grand daughters, Kristen Engeron and spouse, Brian Engeron, Houma, LA, and Lacey Fletcher, Slaughter, LA; her great grandson, Evan Engeron; her nieces and nephews who thought of her as a second mother, Debbie Waguespack, spouse and children, Beth Barrett, spouse and son; Norman Liddell, spouse and children; Brian Liddell, spouse and children; Denise Rozas, spouse and children, Rhonda van Osdell, spouse and children; her god children, Lawrence "Butch" Kling and Christy Monti as well as her dearest friends Neelie and Steve De Bassonett. "Adopted" family: Laura Corona; Donnie Cummins; Annie Cummins; special "adopted" grandson, Ronnie Corona, great grandsons, Connor and AJ Corona; and Laurie Corona, Rita graduated from Istrouma High School where she was a cheerleader and an Honor Society member and later earned a Certified Professional Secretary certificate. Rita was an avid LSU and Chicago Cubs fan. She retired from the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board where she worked as a secretary at Bakerfield Elementary School and Warehouse Supervisor. She was very proud to learn to drive a fork lift before she retired. The family will have a private interment on Thursday. Please do not send cut flowers. In Lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Rita Mae Fletcher's Memorial Fund. A memorial celebration of Rita's life will be held for family and friends at a later date which will be published on Rabenhorst Funeral Home website: www.rabenhorst.com.
