

"Robert Paul Adams of Baton Rouge died on Monday, July 31, 2017. He was born on February 23, 1933 in Galveston, Texas to Maude Lillian Clark and August William Adams. His father was in the Army Air Corps and the family moved frequently. After his mother's death in 1945, he lived with relatives in Houston when his dad was overseas and then with his father in Bossier City. He graduated from Bossier High School where he ran track, set several state records and won a scholarship to LSU. He interrupted his undergraduate studies for a two-year tour in the Army and then returned to Louisiana and earned his bachelor's degree at Northwestern Louisiana State College. He also did graduate work at LSU. His career included various planning positions and concluded with twenty years at the LA Department of Economic Development. Paul continued his interest in track, served as an LSU Track Official for fifty-five years, participated and won gold medals in Senior Olympics and was inducted into the Senior Olympics Hall of Fame. He was a Lay Eucharistic Minister at Trinity Episcopal Church, volunteer leader in the Boy Scouts, sailor, golfer, avid LSU sports fan and genealogist. Known as "Grumps", he was a doting grandfather. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Bobbie Jean Beaird. He is survived by his wife of 40+ years, Sandra C. Adams, his son Robert Brian Adams (wife Jennifer), stepson Stephen Butler Shallcross (wife Lauren), and three grandchildren, Jack Edwards Adams, Sidney Katherine Shallcross, and Charlie Paul Adams. Services will be held on Saturday, August 5 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church with reception to follow. The family requests donations, in lieu of flowers, to the Paul Adams Memorial Fund at Trinity Episcopal Church (3552 Morning Glory Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70808).
