
A retired Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development contract and specifications engineer with 43 1/2 years of dedicated service. He was 79 and a native and resident of Baton Rouge. He died Thursday, June 9, 2011, at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice in Baton Rouge. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bobbie Thibeau Pierce; sons, Gregory Pierce and wife Karen and Chris Pierce and wife Susie; grandchildren, Samantha, Jackie, Katie and James Pierce; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank and Evelyn Schoonmaker; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Jack Nutter. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He coached BREC fast pitch softball for 27 years and was inducted as a Champion of BREC. He was a member and usher at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert J. Pierce Sr. and Eliska B. Pierce Fletcher; brothers, the Rev. William Pierce and J.D. Pierce; and a sister, Eola Mae Aubin. Special thanks to the staff of St. Joseph Hospice, the nurses and staff of The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice and his caregivers, especially Gloria Sims and Shirley Wilson. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice or a charity of choice.
