
A longtime resident of Baton Rouge, Robert "Bob" Culver Jr., 88, died peacefully on Thursday, June 25, 2009, surrounded by his family. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Friday, June 26, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting continues at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Saturday, June 27, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Sara; his four children and their spouses, Elizabeth and John Wilson, Cathy and John Black, Frances and Gary McConnell, and Rob and Rose Culver; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was part of the Greatest Generation, having served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. Throughout his life he enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, photography, gardening and the beach. He was generous with his time and talents and was respected by everyone who knew him. Big Daddy was the beloved patriarch of the family that he cherished dearly. Bob graduated from Georgia Tech and retired with 40 years of service from Plantation Pipeline Co. The family wishes to extend their most sincere thanks to Dr. Eugene Berry, Dr. Roy Kadair, Dr. Carl Luikart, Dr. Robert Kenney, Dr. Kirk Mullins and the staff of the Butterfly Wing of Hospice of Baton Rouge. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Paul Teachey, Robert Culver, Ryan Richard and Richard Culver; sons-in-law, John Black, John Wilson and Gary McConnell; and nephew, Joe Bross. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Lyle and John Capdevielle.
