

Ronald Guidry, resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana passed away on Friday, August 7, 2015 at the age of 78 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and great-grandfather. He grew up in Lafayette with his parents and 6 siblings. He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1956 where he was voted Best Looking. He served in the U.S. Army for 3 years and was stationed in Germany. He was an avid golfer, hunter and boxer. He was an E&I Senior Designer/Checker for many years. His career moved him all over the country until he settled down with his wife and children in Baton Rouge in 1972. Ronald started playing golf recreationally in his 20’s and then later in life competitively. He placed second in the National Senior Olympics in 1999 and 2001. He won at the LA Senior Amateur in 2007 and 2008. Ronald boxed in his youth and then later in his life. His boxing career started with placing runner-up in 1954 at the LA High School Championship. He won at the LA Golden Gloves in 1955 and 1961. In 1959 and 1960, he won at the Europe U.S. Army Championship. After many years, he picked up boxing again in his 70’s and won the World Master Boxing Championship in 2007, 2009 and 2010 (at the ages 70,72, and 73). In 2010, he was inducted into the USA Southern Association Boxing Hall of Fame. Ronald was known also as “Mr. Hollywood” due to his good look, charm and especially his hair. After retiring, Ronald decided to take on the movie world. He appeared in many films including Dukes of Hazzard, Curious Case of Benjamin Button and most recently, Focus. Ronald’s children, siblings, grandchildren and nieces/nephews sometimes traveled with him on his many adventures but he always had one loyal companion who proudly stood by his side, his wife Jean. Ronald showed his loved for his family in all actions. His grandchildren will miss seeing him on the sidelines or at school functions proudly cheering them on. But they know he will always be their number one fan. Even all his sporting accomplishments, the titles he was most proud of were husband, dad and paw-paw. Ronald is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean Lamprich Guidry; children Ronald “Ronnie” Guidry Jr and wife Nolia Guidry; Simone Rene’ Guidry; Shannon Guidry Plauche’ and husband Gary “Bubba” Plauche’ and Jay Paul Guidry all of Baton Rouge. His grandchildren Whitney Brewer, Ashley Guidry, Halie Guidry, Logan Guidry, Canton Plauche’, Younger Plauche’, Dylan Plauche’ and Briley Plauche’. His great-grandchildren Scott Smith and Bentley Brewer. His siblings Delores Respess, Barbara Duhon, Nolan Guidry and wife Theresa and Sandra Ducote. Godchild Tiger Guidry. And a special uncle who was also a good friend, Lewis Guidry. He is preceded in death by his parents Wilbur and Louise Guidry; siblings, Billy Guidry and Renee Lloyd and grandson Tyler Scott Brewer. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. B.R. on Monday, August 10, 2015 from 5:00pm-9:00pm. Visitation will resume Tuesday, August 11, 2015 from 10:00am until service at 12:00pm. Interment will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Donations can be made to Ragin Cajun Boxing Club at 305 Arnould Blvd. in Lafayette, Louisiana 70506. Ragin Cajun is a nonprofit youth organization promoting youth fitness.
