
"Rosalind Carolyn Smith Sigler died peacefully on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 just one day shy of her 81st birthday. She was born on October 5, 1935 in Shreveport, LA. In her early years, Rosalind grew up in the town of Haynesville. During her youth, she lived in the Harris community of Claiborne Parish where she graduated from Harris High School. She played piano and violin and was in the Shreveport Junior Symphony during her high school years. In her senior year, she won the title of Miss Claiborne Parish. She attended Mary Washington College in Virginia for two years then transferred to LSU in her junior year. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and graduated from LSU in Home Economics. While at LSU she met and later married the love of her life, Roger Sigler. Rosalind later earned her teaching certificate and taught 2nd grade for 27 years in Ascension Parish. She was awarded Teacher of the Year for her school and later Primary Teacher of the Year for the parish. Rosalind and Roger spent many years before and after their retirement living periodically in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. They enjoyed living life to their fullest there among many friends. They were married for 47 years until Roger's death in 2005. Rosalind was an avid reader. She enjoyed shopping in which most of her purchases were on gifts for others. She was a very giving lady and southern belle that enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a wonderful mother to her children, caring Grandmother to her grandchildren and good friend to many. Rosalind was preceded in death by her father, Henry A. Smith, mother, Lillian Dawson Smith, and an infant son, Robert Toombs Sigler. She is survived by her son, Mark Sigler and fiancée Bridget Bunch Tanner of St. Francisville, daughter, Melissa Cooper and husband Arthur Cooper of Prairieville, grandsons, Glynn and Grant Cooper of Baton Rouge; sister Barbara Dean Kronenberg of Haughton; niece Andrea Anne Tew of Shreveport and nephews John Kronenberg of Blanchard and Robert Kronenberg of Silver Spring, MD. The Sigler Family would like to send their deepest thanks to Drs. R. Fields, K. Schmeekle, M. Davis, N. Rolfe, T. Kemp, J. Patten, the many team members of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and a host of nurses at OLOL. Also, they would like to extend their deepest thanks to the nurses at St. Joseph's Hospice Carpenter House. In addition, the family would like to give their heartfelt thank you to her hairdresser, Kerry Favaron and manicurist Wilda Faye Jones for keeping her beautiful for many years and for her housekeeper, Debbie Burgett for helping her in her home. All of which considered Rosalind their second mother. In lieu of flowers you may go on line and make a Heart of a Hero memorial gift donation to Mary Bird Perkins Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center. Visitation will be at the University United Methodist Church in B.R. in which Rosalind was a 50-year member, Friday, October 7 from 10 am-12 pm with a service afterwards at noon. The interment will be held privately.
