

"Roy Cleveland "Cleve" Brooks Jr., Ph.D., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 21, 2018. Born October 24, 1950, in West Monroe, LA; he was a resident of Baton Rouge for 45 years. He was a faithful husband to the "love of his life," his late wife, Gail Brooks; a devoted father to this three children, Chris, Elizabeth and Connor; a nurturing grandfather to his four grandchildren, Brooks, Nelson, Royce and Iris; and a loving and caring friend to all who knew him. He left our world surrounded by his family. Cleve devoted himself to his interests in animal well-being, music, family, and friends. He was a graduate of West Monroe High School, the University of Louisiana Monroe for his undergraduate degree, and LSU for his graduate studies. In 2006, he completed his doctoral degree in Higher Education and Leadership Development at LSU. He had a 40-year career in education spanning from his time at the LSU Alumni Association to Director of Undergraduate Admissions at LSU until his retirement in 2012, shortly after which he became a Thesis and Dissertation Director at LSU's Graduate School. More recently, Cleve also began working further at one of his true passions, animal care, in 2012 at the Highland Road Animal Hospital. In 2016, Cleve decided to go back to school to earn his Associate's Degree of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology from Baton Rouge Community College. He was three months from graduating at the time of his death. He was a devoted member of University United Methodist Church and was a member of both the Chancel Choir and the Agape Ringers. Cleve is survived by his children, Chris Brooks and his wife Jaimée Brooks, Elizabeth Brooks, and Connor Brooks and his wife Katie Brooks; four grandchildren, Brooks Turner, Nelson Hines, Royce Baron and Iris Brooks. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail Brooks; father and mother, Roy Cleveland Brooks Sr. and Louise Brooks; and father and mother-in-law, Nelson and Mary Elizabeth Goings. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 24, at University United Methodist Church, 3350 Dalrymple Drive, with the funeral service following. There will be a brief reception at the church following the service. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Serving as active pallbearers will be Austin Goings, Ken Cox, Dan Cox, Ben Smith, Ken Brooks, Benjamin Brooks, Bob McAnelly, and Mickey Freiberg.
