He was a native of Clarks and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge who retired from Ethyl Corp. after many years of service. Roy died Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at his residence. He was 86. Roy was a decorated U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II who served in the Pacific Theater. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Friday, July 22, from 11 a.m. until the religious service in the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Ken Carroll. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Sygalas Patton; parents, Charles and Lucy Crawford Patton; sisters, Martha, Hazel, Avis and Mildred; and brothers, Charles Jr., Buster, Woodrow, Clarence and Jack. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to a charity of choice.
