
A retired employee from Oceanic Butler and former employee of G and B Building Specialist, he died Friday, June 22, 2007. He was 76 and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served in the Korean War. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., was on Monday, June 25, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on Tuesday from noon until Mass at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Tom Duhé, celebrant. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Gwen Guercio Barrett and Terry Barrett; three sons and daughters-in-law, Geno and Marjorie "Sister" Guercio, Daryl Guercio and Becky Parrish-Guercio, and Shawn and Donna Guercio; seven grandchildren, Jamie Barrett Cheramie, Jason Guercio, Christy Ann Guercio Moore, Christopher Barrett, Olivia Guercio, Emily Guercio and Nicholas Guercio; six great-grandchildren, Tori Hunt, Dayton Guercio, Landon Cheramie, Bailey Guercio, Barrett Cheramie and Breelyn Moore; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Lena Mae Guercio Lombardo and Tony Lombardo, Patricia G. Moreau and Lee Moreau, and Mary Ann Guercio Burton; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Daisy Guercio; and former wife and mother of his children, Helen Guercio Stevens. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph S. Guercio Sr.; mother, Malena Callegan Guercio; brother, Sammy Guercio; and brother-in-law, Joseph "Buddy" Burton. Pallbearers will be Geno Guercio, Daryl Guercio, Shawn Guercio, Jason Guercio, Randy Moreau and Christopher Barrett. Honorary pallbearers are Nicholas Guercio, Pete Rouse and Dr. Vincent Leggio. He was a member of the Italian American Society of Gretna, St. Alphonsus Church, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was co-owner of Sammy's Lounge. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of Ochsner Clinic.
