Ruth Simmons Brassett left her earthly home of September 2, 2021 at 4:00 am. Although it breaks our hearts to say goodbye, we can find peace in knowing she is finally home.
Ruth was born January 19, 1926, in Waldorf, Maryland, to Frank and Hertha Simmons. Shortly after graduating high school, she began a successful modeling career. It was during this time that she met the man who would steal her heart. After a short courtship, they married on July 3, 1946. Their blessed union lasted 69 years, until Leo’s death on March 31, 2015.
Following his time in the service, the couple settled in Baton Rouge. Eager to start a family, the good Lord blessed them with four sons, one of whom died shortly after birth, and two daughters. Leo had a long, successful career as General Counsel with Louisiana Companies, while Ruth worked diligently and lovingly to care for their home and five children.
Ruth and Leo enjoyed evenings out on the town with their best friends, the Penders and Bienvenues. They also loved spending summers in Panama City Beach with the family.
Our mom was truly a gorgeous lady, inside and out. She never left the house without every hair in place and a full face of make-up. Her beautiful smile and that twinkle in her baby blue eyes will shine down on us until we can hug her once again.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Richard and David Simmons, husband, Leo Lieux Brassett, infant son, Don Brassett, and daughter-in-law, Amy Nesbit Brassett. She leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Leo (Milam), Michael, and David (Anne) Brassett; daughters, Janine DeMars, and Renee Dunbar Stelly; grandchildren, Michael (Lindsay) Brassett, Kristen (James) Brassett Lemoine, Noel Brassett, Shawn Dunbar, Danielle (Jeremy) Chandler, Samantha DeMars, Mandy (Nick) Camel, David (Kayla) Brassett; and great grandchildren, Hudson, Brooks, and William Camel, Jax and Phoenix Dunbar, and Benton, Pearson Brassett, and Henri Lemoine.
The memorial service will be held Saturday, September 18th, at St. Aloyisius Catholic Church, 2025 Stuart Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., immediately preceding the Mass. Pallbearers are Michael Brassett, David Brassett, Shawn Dunbar, James Lemoine, and Kyle Weber, and Matt Sledge.
