Ruth Hayes Horn passed peacefully to her heavenly home on May 23, 2026, at the age of 95. A lifelong resident of Louisiana, she was born and raised in Shreveport. Her family moved to Baton Rouge when she was 17 years old. There she met and fell in love with her husband of 26 years, Guy M. Broyles, Jr. They raised two daughters together and were parted at his death in June 1976. Ruth worked as an Executive Secretary for Ethyl Corporation (later known as Albemarle) for over 30 years. She was a smart and organized professional and was surely responsible in large part for the success of the men she worked for. She remarried in 1986 to Albert B. Horn, Jr. and was again widowed at his death in 1990. Ruth was a beautiful, gracious lady with a warm smile that lit up her face. She made everyone she encountered feel loved and heard. Ruth worshipped and volunteered at First Christian Church for many years until her health declined.
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Sally Broyles Genovese (Charles) and Susan Broyles Fisher (Fred); stepsons, Albert B. Horn III, M.D. (Barbara) and John M. Horn (Sherry); grandchildren, Chris Genovese (Bridget), Matt Genovese, Amy Genovese, Callie Broyles Barthe, Thomas Morcom (Lacey), Jacky Horn (Jeremy Snopek); great-grandchildren, Andie, Pierce, Shayne, Mason, Maddox, and Miles.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Guy M. Broyles, Jr. and Albert B. Horn, Jr.; parents, David Harrison Hayes and Ruth Knight Hayes; and grandson, Guy Anthony Genovese.
A celebration of her life will be held at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 10230 Mollylea Drive, Baton Rouge on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Visiting begins at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m.
Flowers are welcome, but donations to Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area (https://alzbr.org/) are also appreciated.
