Ruth"M-Mommy"Waldron McCarty

Ruth Waldron McCarty (M-Mommy), 92, passed away on April 5, 2015. She was born on August 7, 1922, in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she graduated from Byrd High School and Centenary College, and met her late husband, Keaton. They spent 52 wonderful years together until Keaton's death in 1995. Ruth was a school teacher in Shreveport and Metairie before retiring (Keaton retired from Exxon) and moving to Baton Rouge in 1994. She enjoyed volunteer work at First United Methodist Church and looked forward each Sunday to meeting with her "Kum Double" and "Covenant" Sunday school classes. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed cooking (famous for her roast beef, mashed potatoes and chocolate pie!), reading, traveling and working crossword puzzles. Her greatest passion was her family - she loved her children and their families, unconditionally and, as she would say, "to the moon and back." She is survived by her children and spouses, Patricia Scheffy (Rob) and Keaton McCarty (Bonnie). She was adored by her grandchildren, Robyn Scheffy Henry (Brett), Rebecca Scheffy Roberts (Eric), Robert Scheffy, III (Hilary), Keaton McCarty, Jr. (Staci), Sean McCarty and Ryan McCarty. She is also survived by her seven great grandchildren. And left to cherish her memory are special friends Marjorie Bobbs, Mae Bray, Maureen Cupit, Anne Dietzel, Lois Jackson and Maxine Jones. Special thanks to her caregivers and friends, Tonya Ghoram, Marie Turner, Priscilla Brown, Ruby Cummings, and Hospice of Baton Rouge. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church followed by service at 11:00 a.m. In Ruth's memory, wear bright colors to celebrate the happiness she brought into our lives. Interment to follow at a later date in Shreveport, LA.
