Sally Smiley Efferson

Sally Celeste Smiley Efferson, 92, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at the Grace Home in Shreveport. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Monday, Feb. 15, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home on Tuesday, Feb. 16, from 12:30 p.m. until funeral services at 1:30 p.m., led by Brother Milford Walters. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park Cemetery. Sally was born Jan. 22, 1918, in Centerville, in Livingston Parish. Spending most of her life in Baton Rouge, she was a faithful member of Winbourne Avenue Baptist Church. Ms. Efferson was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence J. Efferson; parents, Lorin C. and Myrtle Watts Smiley; a sister, Helen Efferson Langlois; and brothers, Lorin V. Smiley and Edward A. Smiley. She is survived by a daughter, Glenda Efferson Bernard and husband, Spencer E. Bernard Jr., of Shreveport; a sister, June Smiley Ford; two grandchildren, Brian S. Bernard and wife Kristen, of Shreveport, and Brandon L. Bernard and wife Aimee, of Escondido, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Baker, Flora, Owen and Violet Bernard; along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Azalea Estates Assisted Living and Grace Home, both of Shreveport, for their kind comfort and assistance. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.   >
