Sally Barfield Graves

Sally Prescott Barfield Graves passed away peacefully at her home on July 28, 2026, surrounded by the family she cherished and who loved her deeply. She was 94. Born in Baton Rouge on April 15, 1932, Sally was the daughter of Daniel Ramsey Barfield and Lou Glenn Atkinson Barfield. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents; her brothers, Rev. Daniel Ramsey Barfield III, S.J., and Thomas Atkinson Barfield; and her husband, Edwin Allen "Jigger" Graves. She is survived by her brother, William Tisdale Barfield; her six children, Allen Graves (Carla), Mary Glenn Etue (Tim), Daniel Graves, Tommy Graves (Sharon), Billy Graves (Whitney), and Sally Davis (Russell); her fifteen cherished grandchildren, Mitchel (Sophie) and Evan Graves, Jacob, Marshall, and Madison Etue, Barrett Beam, Katelyn and Ashley Graves, Marley, Ainsley, and Ramsey Graves, and Michael, William, Charlotte, and James Davis; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory. Sally graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1950 and earned her degree from Louisiana State University in 1954. Shortly thereafter, she married Edwin "Jigger" Graves in 1956. Together they shared 64 years of marriage, raising six children and building a home centered on family, faith, and lifelong friendships. A devoted Catholic, Sally was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church for more than six decades. Her steadfast faith was the foundation of her life, reflected in the kindness and generosity she extended to others and served as an inspiration to all who knew her. She was actively involved in her community throughout the years and found great joy in supporting the organizations that were meaningful to her. Sally had a natural gift for creating beauty, whether decorating a home, planning a gathering, or welcoming family and friends into her home. Her talents led to successful careers in interior design and real estate, where she enjoyed helping others create homes they loved. But nothing brought her greater joy than creating her own home and filling it with the people she loved most. Her home was rarely quiet, always welcoming, and often filled with laughter and conversation. She leaves behind a family strengthened by her love and guided by the example she set throughout her life.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Sally's devoted caregivers, whose compassion and friendship allowed her to continue living with the independence and grace that meant so much to her. They became cherished members of our family, and we will be forever grateful. Visitation will be at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Ave., Baton Rouge, LA, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 1pm until the Mass of Christian Burial at 2pm. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
