Salvador B. Musacchia passed away peacefully at his home on June 4, 2018 at the age of 88 after a long battle with dementia. Sal was a loving husband, father grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was born in New Orleans to Italian immigrant parents, raised in Tickfaw and a Baton Rouge resident since 1948.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jeannette Vaccaro Musacchia and his two children, Ricky and wife Karen Rivette Musacchia and daughter Beverly Musacchia MacIntosh and husband John. Also grandchildren, Chase and Courtney Barras Musacchia, Shannon Musacchia Ainsworth and husband William, Blaine and Logan Jones Musacchia, Ashley MacIntosh Melancon and husband Blaine and Chris MacIntosh. Along with 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Virginia Arnone Musacchia and seven siblings: Lena Musacchia Ribando, Tony Musacchia, Jr., Joe Musacchia, Jimmy Musacchia, Rosalie Musacchia Dorsa, Nick Musacchia and Frances Musacchia Lamonte.
Sal retired from The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. (A & P Stores) after 40 years of employment. He was a member of K.C. Council #9016, served as a LSU Marshal for 30 years and played softball at St. Louis King of France in the parishioners’ league until he was 70 years old. He enjoyed LSU sports of any kind, but mostly enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He and Ms. Jeanette were at most every outing any of them participated in.
The family would like to thank all medical and homecare personnel that took care of him over the last few years, especially his dear friend and caregiver Kathy Lee.
Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Friday from 12:00 pm until the funeral service at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
