
Attorney Sam J. D'Amico passed away quietly in his sleep at his Baton Rouge home at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2010, at age 95. Visitation for Mr. D'Amico will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., Monday, May 24, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 25, from 10 a.m. until the funeral Mass celebrated at noon. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. He was born June 26, 1914, in Mix, on False River near New Roads. He graduated from Poydras High School and later from LSU Law School in 1938. Mr. D'Amico began his law practice in St. Francisville and subsequently moved his office to Baton Rouge. Mr. D'Amico remained in the practice of law for more than 70 years. He was a loving, giving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He was an active member of the legal community and widely recognized for his professionalism and expertise. He shared his legal wisdom and knowledge throughout his final days. Mr. D'Amico's contributions to the community were never ending. Sam D'Amico is survived by his children, James D'Amico and wife Erika D'Amico, Daniel D'Amico, Grace Russo, Marie Ransome, Sallie Segura and spouse Charles F. Segura Sr., Suzette D'Amico, and Sam J. D'Amico Jr. and wife Carole D'Amico; grandchildren, Janice Capone, Michael D'Amico, Brit D'Amico, Karen Burdeaux, Karla Morris, Kevin Segura, Kim Segura Landry, Danny D'Amico, Brad D'Amico, Marie D'Amico Nelson, Sonya D'Amico Zimmer, Troy Russo, Tracye Russo, Sam Russo, Justin Ransome, Dustin Ransome, Deuce Ransome, Tami Dubose, Kel Segura, Suzann Dykhouse, David Segura, Sandi Bourque, Jodi Tickle and Christopher D'Amico; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Josephine Pocorello; and the many other people Mr. D'Amico considered his family and friends. Preceded in death by four sisters; two brothers; wife, Marie D'Amico; second wife, Sarah D'Amico; daughter, Sammye D'Amico Segura; son-in-law, Camille J. Russo; daughter-in-law, Dorothy D'Amico; two grandchildren, John Kyle Ransome and Shawn Segura; and great-grandchild, Madison Maggio. His achievements were many. Special thanks to his loving caregivers, Amanda McCaffery and Katie Dupuy, and his special nurse, Tommie Krousel. Pallbearers will be his 12 grandsons. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to John Kyle D'Amico Ransome Scholarship Fund, St. Joseph's Academy or the charity of your choosing.
