

Sonny retired from the Pipefitters Union of Local 198 in BR, La. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War ll, where he received the Asiatic Pacific World War ll Victory Medal. He was a Former Thoroughbred Horse Trainer, Association member N.H.T.R. He also formed the children’s Cajun Dance Troupe, Le Joie De Vie, which was a part of the Cajun French Music Association Baton Rouge Chapter.
Sonny loved to cook, dance & entertain. He was a member of T. Dance Baton Rouge & Cajun French Music Association since it was founded. A parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, he was the first person christened in their baptism registry on Christmas Day in 1928.
Sonny is survived by his brothers, Paul (Marlene) Moran of Little Rock, AR; Phillip (Angela) Moran of Osage, AR; Michael (Susan) of Dallas, TX; Sam J. (Cathy) Moran of Baton Rouge, LA; sister, Sarah Moran Nevels (John) of Kilian, LA; son, Steve (Angel); grandchildren, Alisha Manning, Jason Manning and Brittany; and several great grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Moran; mother, Mae Cockerham Moran; father, Sam J. Moran and brothers, Jerry, Robert, & Larry Moran.
Visitation will be held on May 11, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd, and will resume on May 12, 2026, from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. A Funeral Mass will begin at 12:00 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, officiated by Father Miles Walsh. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Moran Jr, Andy Moran, T-Jon Himel, Lance Nevels, Jason Manning and Yoni Canales.
A heartfelt thank you to his nephew, Robert “Bobby” Moran, for the many years of care and support he gave to his Uncle Sonny.
