

Sandra M. Azar, better known to her family and friends as “Sandy’”, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the age of 85. Sandy was born on December 21, 1935 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was the beloved daughter of Arnold J. Mascaro, Sr. and Nancy Mire Mascaro and the eldest of 5 siblings. Sandy found great joy in spending time with her family and friends, playing Bridge, entertaining, and spending time on False River and Lake Pontchartrain. She was a devout Christian, loved the Catholic Church, and committed to helping others. As a founder of St. Thomas More Project “S”, Sandy worked to provide a greater sense of Parish community by instituting “Spiritual, Service, and Social” programs. Sandy was a longtime member of the Krewe of Romany, the Serendipity Club, STM Social Responsibility Committee, ESA (Epsilon Sigma Alpha), a Leader and Service Organization, Council on Aging, Life Writers, Meals on Wheels, and many others. She is survived by the only love of her life, David G. Azar, Sr., 4 Children, David G. Azar, Jr. And wife Nancy, Robin Azar Matthews and husband Robert, Craig S. Azar and wife Belinda, and Christian A. Azar, Sr.; 8 Grandchildren, Matthew P. Azar and wife Calli, Grant A. Mitchell and wife Maritza, Justin B. Matthews, Ilissa M. McCarty and husband Lane, Sarah A. Guzman and husband John, Taylor A. Silvio and husband Anthony, Christian Alexander Azar, Jr., and Christina R. Azar and fiancee’ Robert C. Young; and 10 Great Grandchildren, Emma Rose, Ella Louise, Harrison Grant, Hampton George, Ethan Alexander, Presley Grace, Lane Allen, III, Carsyn Rain Matthews, Blakely Jo Matthews and Baby Silvio arriving on December 7, 2021; 4 Siblings, Arnold J. Mascaro, Jr. and wife Janet, Peggy Ellen Mascaro, Wendy Rose Mascaro, and David P. Mascaro and wife Kathy, and Sister In Law Donna Dufrene Mascaro. Predeceased in death by her parents, Arnold J. Mascaro, Sr. and Nancy Mire Mascaro, and brother Gary Joseph Mascaro. Pallbearers are Matthew P. Azar, Grant A. Mitchell, Justin B. Matthews, Christian A. Azar, Jr., Anthony L. Silvio, and Robert C. Young. Visitation at St. Thomas More Catholic Church 9:30am – 11:00am on Monday, September 27, 2021 with Christian Mass to follow. Burial at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
