Sarah "Dodie" Goff Edmonds

Homemaker, loving mother, and athletic enthusiast, Sarah “Dodie,” passed away Tuesday, September 16 peacefully at home with her sons. Visitation is set for Tuesday Sept. 22 at 10:30, at St. James Episcopal Church with funeral following at noon.

Dodie is survived by two sons, Walter Raymond Edmonds, III and wife Carol Albritton Edmonds of Edwards, MS, and Louis Todd Edmonds (Allison Laine McNemar), of Baton Rouge, LA.

She has 9 grandchildren, Caroline Edmonds O’Cain and husband Kennith Trey O’Cain of Madison, MS, Raymond Stirling Edmonds and wife Courtney Jarell Edmonds of Greenwell Springs, LA, William Burden Edmonds and wife Courtney Powers Edmonds of New Orleans, LA, Kelly Edmonds Lemoine and husband Nathan Lemoine of Baton Rouge, LA, Sarah Elizabeth (Tessie) Edmonds of Baton Rouge, LA, Justin Scott Edmonds and wife Jessica Gray Edmonds, of Pensacola, FL, Clayton Ross Edmonds of St Robert, MO, Catherine Edmonds Dragovic and husband Sinisa Nino Dragovic of Baton Rouge, LA, and Jeannie Edmonds Smith and husband Steven Michael Smith, of Baton Rouge, LA.

She is predeceased by her parents, William Maxwell Goff and Sarah Miller Goff, both of Enterprise, AL, her husband, Walter (Raymie) Raymond Edmonds, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA, her sister Billie Goff Smiley of Baton Rouge, LA, and her son, Richard William Edmonds of Baton Rouge, LA.

She has 17 great-grandchildren with whom she celebrated many a holiday and special events in her home.

Born January 31, 1931 in Atlanta, GA, “Dodie” attended LSU and was a member of Phi Mu sorority. She was an active participant in swimming and diving at LSU. As a young adult she won many bowling and tennis awards, then she found her real passion and won many accolades in golf with eleven club championships at the Baton Rouge Country Club, and local, state, national senior olympic medals including a silver medal in the National Senior Olympics. She was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church. She was also a member of the Baton Rouge Junior League. Those close to her claimed “she was the best cook in Baton Rouge.”

Honorary pall bearers are Burden, Raymond, Justin and Clayton Edmonds.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to St. James Episcopal Church or to Pinnacle Hospice.
