Shirley Mae Sanders Adams was born March 4, 1933, in Burdette, MS to the late Nathaniel Sanders, Sr. and Evia Clemonts Sanders. She was the second child of eight children born to the union. She assumed the role of the ultimate family matriarch as she was blessed with a long life. Early in life she professed her faith in Christ. She lived by the awareness of good courage, faith, and love of God. She loved her family. She departed this life on June 28, 2025, at the age of 92.
She received her early education in the public schools graduating from Breisch High School, Leland, MS in 1951. She furthered her education at Alcorn A&M College – 1951-53, Lorman, MS.; she received a BS degree in Accounting from Southern University at New Orleans – 1971. In 1973, she began her career working for the City of New Orleans and retired in 1995 as City Accountant III.
She was married to her late husband, Louis Adams Jr, for more than sixty-two years before he passed away. This union was blessed with five children – one son and four daughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathaniel and Evia Sanders, Sr.; her husband, Louis Adams, Jr.; her son, Ronnie LaSalle Adams; her daughter, Terri Lynn Adams Houston; her oldest brother and sister-in-law, George Sanders (Frances); and her sister, Barbara Sanders Williams. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories of a well-lived life: Pamela Adams Briscoe of Fayetteville, GA; Cassandra Adams Coley (David) of Locust Grove, GA; Shelita Adams of Atlanta, GA; daughter-in-law, Paula Woods Adams (Arthur Allen); son-in-law, Gill Houston, Sr.; nine grandchildren: Dr. Ronnie Adams II (Felicia); Angelle Adams (Jerry Brown); Terronce Richardson (Angela); Kaaron Briscoe; Patrick Briscoe (Zabada); Trenice Houston; Gill Houston Jr.; RandiLynn Adams Morgan (Ariane); Ryian Adams-Llopis; two bonus grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as well as two brothers, three sisters, two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law; and a host of relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70815 in the Camellia Room on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 11am. Visitation will also be held in the Camellia Room from 9am – 11am.
