

"Shirley Katherine D'Angelo Blackwell, a native of New Orleans, LA. and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA. went to be with her Lord on Saturday, November 5, 2016. She was 82. Shirley was a retired East Baton Rouge Parish Public School teacher. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, from 9-11 a.m. with religious service immediately following in the Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Ben Day, Rev. Joey Beeson, and Rev. Michael Peeler. Graveside service and burial will be at New Zion Church Cemetery in Tylertown, MS. at 2 p.m. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Gerald Blackwell; son, Chad Blackwell and wife, Kathryn; son, Brian "Rusty" Blackwell; sister Velma Hammons and husband, Steve; sister, Claire Black; brother, Joseph D'Angelo, Jr. and wife Rose; and brother-in-law, Ronald Burckhalter. She dearly loved her grandchildren, Matthew and wife, Danielle; Alana Day and husband, Ben; Hannah, Landon, and Laken; and her great¬grandchildren Brayden, Addison, Ezekiel "Zeke", and Jackson. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Alena D'Angelo; sister, Emma Burckhalter; sister, Anna Winborne and husband Denny; and brother-in-law, Bill Black. She received her Bachelor's degree from Southwestern Louisiana Institute and her Master's degree from LSU. She was a long time active member of Florida Blvd. Baptist Church where she enjoyed attending her Sunday School Class, helping with their mission endeavors, and singing in the choir. She enjoyed camping in the mountains with family and friends, crocheting, and ceramics. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
