
A homemaker and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 6:10 p.m. She was 84 and a native of Baton Rouge. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd, on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and again on Wednesday, April 18, from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 12424 Brogdon Lane, on Wednesday, April 18, at noon celebrated by the Rev. Frank M. Uter. Burial will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Sharon Thompson Wright; two sons, Scott Thompson and wife Cindy, and Neal Thompson and wife Brenda; five grandchildren, Michelle Thompson Patt and husband Jeremy Patt, Ashlie Thompson Lemoine and husband Spencer Lemoine, John-Scott Thompson, Alex Wright, and Sydney Wright; greatgrandson, Dax Lemoine; six brothers, John Begue, Jr., Gary Begue, John Landry, Karl Landry, Jr., Gaynell Landry and Donald Landry; four sisters, Beryle Escarra, Patty Jo Roubique, Carol Head and Linda Begue; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George "Buddy" Thompson; son, Duane Mark Thompson; and parents, John Samuel Begue, Sr. and Isabelle Summers Begue Landry. Shirley was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a 1944 graduate of Baton Rouge High School. Special thanks to the 4th Floor oncology staff at Baton Rouge General Hospital Bluebonnet, St. Joseph Hospice and to Dr. Michael Castine and staff at the Hematology and Oncology Clinic.
