
Shirley Byers Brown, a lifelong resident of Pride, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, at Baton Rouge General Hospital. She was born on March 13, 1929, to Johnnie and Annie Byers, in Pride. Ms. Brown was a lifelong member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church, where she served as pre-school director for 50 years. She served her church and her community with all of her heart. She retired from the Louisiana Department of Insurance after 32 years of service as an insurance examiner. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Brown; and parents. Ms. Brown is survived by her son, Michael Brown, of Central; her daughter, Michelle Huffstickler and husband Kyle, of Pride; and three grandchildren, Timothy Huffstickler, Amy Huffstickler, and Alyssa Champagne. Visitation at Sandy Creek Baptist Church, Pride, on Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes at the church on Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. The family would like to thank the Baton Rouge General Hospital-Bluebonnet, ICU unit staff for the compassion they showed to her and her family, and also the members of Sandy Creek Baptist Church.
