

Shirley Ann Honeycutt Garon, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on September 19, 2015, at the age of 80 at her home. She was a native of Starks, Louisiana, and a long time resident of Baton Rouge. After graduating from Starks High School as valedictorian, she met and married the love of her life, Dr. Jack Garon, and started a family. She later worked and retired from Baton Rouge General Hospital. The matriarch of Cedardale Avenue, she was adored by her neighbors and admired for her beautiful yard that she loved maintaining. Since the passing of her husband, she has enjoyed the friendship of her Tuesday lunch bunch. Most of all, however, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Shirley is survived by sons, Dr. Mark W. Garon, and his wife, Donna, and Jack W. Garon and Joyce Garon, all of Baton Rouge; Michelle Garon Day and her husband, Allen, of Katy, Texas and son-in-law, and Wayne Lejeune of Lafayette. She is also survived by her brother, Eugene Honeycutt and his wife, Ruby, of Cypress, Texas. She is survived by grandchildren, Dr. Tyson Garon and his wife, Michelle, Beau and Christian Garon, Elizabeth Kobetz Touchet and her husband, Eli, David Kobetz and his wife, Brooke, Michael Kobetz, Dr. Amanda Simpson, Brennan and Camille Day, Steve Lessard and his wife, Rita, Robin Lessard Gauthe and her husband, Curt, and Jessica LeJeune. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Knox and George Patrick Garon, Avery Touchet, Sara Lessard, Charles Besselman, William Post and Lincoln Howell, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jack W. Garon, daughter, Lisa Garon Lejeune, parents, Gus and Clarabelle Honeycutt, brothers, Alton, Norris, Clifford and Frank, and sisters, Octavia Phillips and Mavis Timmons. On behalf of Shirley, the family would like to thank the staff at Baton Rouge Neuromedical Center and St. James Place, particularly the therapists from Triton Rehabilitation, as well as the dedicated staff of Clarity Hospice. Finally, the family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Mike Rolfsen, her long-time physician, as well as Doctors Joseph Deumite and William Hines for their dedicated service. The family requests that visitation be observed on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, from 5 to 8 pm at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, located at 825 Government Street. Visitation will be observed again on Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at 10 am at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, located at 2021 Stuart Ave., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Internment to follow at Resthaven Garden of Memory, located at 11817 Jefferson Highway. Shirley Garon was loved by everyone who knew her and her eternal optimism and sunny disposition will be greatly missed.
