We met Shirley Hannie Planas shortly after the murder of our daughter Renee Olubunmi Rondeau in 1995. She reached out to us, with compassion and condolences, recognizing that we were bringing about awareness on the depth and breadth of crime and violence in this nation. She was employed by Catholic Charities of Georgia as a advocate for social and spiritual enrichment. Because of Shirley ,our non profit organization,  A.A.M.M. E.N.! , Action Americans , Murder Must End Now, was bestowed an award by Catholic Charities  for “ Bringing Peace to a Culture of Violence.” She spent many hours interviewing our work with great expertise and diligence and love. We spent many hours with Shirley, here at our home. One highlight for her was spending an evening with us dining on fresh whole walnuts and shrimp. She was devoted to her daughter Leslie and her son. When Leslie was ill, requiring an operation, Shirley requested Elaine to be present after the procedure. Her dream was to complete a book, renovate her home in Baton Rouge, and be close to her children.  We called Shirley frequently in Baton Rouge, having many sweet conversations with her who always was concerned about our well being! We love her and shall miss her. For almost over two years, we attempted to call her, but the Mailbox was always full. Shirley introduced  us to Catholic Sister Helen Prejean,  
author of “ Dead Man Walking”,  and was close to the Sister.We love you,Shirley; you contributed so much to make this a better nation for all!
