
Shirley Doherty Watson, resident of Baton Rouge and retired secretary at the LSU School of Library and Information Science, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2015. She was born on January 27, 1930. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St. on Friday, February 6, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm and on Saturday, February 7 from 9-10 a.m., with memorial service at 10 a.m. conducted by Rev. Chris Andrews. Shirley is survived by three children, Mary Helen Borck, Tommy Watson and wife Dianne, and Sallie Honeychurch and husband Steve; five grandchildren, Nathan Borck and wife Caroline, Jacob Borck, Ben Honeychurch, Mary Honeychurch, and Chris Honeychurch; great grandchildren, Eloise and Jim Borck; brother Bill Doherty and wife Mary Ellen. Preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Thomas Bryan Watson, Jr., her parents Bill and Mary Doherty, brother John Doherty, son-in-law Jim Borck, and several aunts and uncles. Known as "Mama Shirley" to her grandchildren and their friends, she loved her role as grandmother and was a big part of their lives. Shirley was a member of the Baton Rouge Junior League, the Baton Rouge Woman's Club, and the East-West Club. She was an accomplished cook and seamstress. One of her cherished legacies for family and friends is her cookbook, "From Burn-up to Burn-out or If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen!"
