Born on January 30, 1971, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Spencer was the son of Sue and James “Joe” Moak, Sr. He graduated from Central High School before attending Nicholls State University, where he played football.
Spencer dedicated his career to the refinery industry, where he earned the respect of countless coworkers, employees, and friends who became family. As President of Specialty Welding and Turnarounds (SWAT), he was known not only for his leadership and work ethic, but also for his willingness to mentor others and help those around him succeed.
While Spencer was proud of the work he accomplished throughout his career, his greatest legacy was the people he invested in along the way. He believed in others long before they believed in themselves, taking the time to teach, encourage, and challenge those around him to become better leaders, coworkers, and friends. His generosity, integrity, and larger-than-life personality left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Spencer embraced every opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer who was happiest spending time with family and friends, whether sitting in a deer stand, bass fishing in Mexico, or enjoying a day on the golf course. He had a gift for bringing people together, and wherever he went, laughter, friendship, and unforgettable memories were never far behind.
Spencer was preceded in death by his beloved father, James “Joe” Moak, Sr., whose passing when Spencer was just 22 years old left a lasting impact on his life.
Spencer is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Shannon Brunson Moak; his mother, Sue Corban; his children, Spencer Moak, Jr. (Amanda), Shelby Moak, and Summer Moak McNulty (Brandon); his stepchildren, Kaylee Austin and Jacob Austin; his grandchildren, Harper Allen, Spencer “Tripp” Moak III, Malcolm Moak, and Nathan Moak; his brother, James Moak, Jr. (Kitty); and his nieces, Kimberley Simpson and Kelsie Moak.
Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70815, on August 8, 2026 from 12:00pm until funeral service at 2:00pm. Graveside service will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Spencer Moak, Jr., Jacob Austin, Joel Johns, Reed Brunson, Daniel Brunson, Preston Radley, Kirbie Hunley, and Jack Corley.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Spencer’s memory by extending the same kindness, generosity, and encouragement that he so freely gave to others. A helping hand, a word of encouragement, or simply taking the time to invest in someone else would be a fitting tribute to the legacy he leaves behind.
