
Stanley Davis "Tonkey" Romepassed away at 7:12 p.m.Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, at Our Lady of theLakeRegionalMedicalCenter. He was born on June 11, 1924. He worked for Kaiser Aluminum of Baton Rouge as a supervisor in the Digestion Department, and as a consultant for them in Jamaica, Spainand Ireland. After his retirement from Kaiser, he worked as a bailiff for Judges Hymel and Hester. He was a World War II veteran, having served in Iranand several countries in theMiddle EastandEurope. He was a proud member of the 3452 Special Ordinance in the U.S. Army. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., was on Friday, Feb. 23, from 6 p.m.to 9 pm.Visiting at St. Isidore Catholic Church on Saturday, Feb. 24, from 9 a.m.until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Fred Youngs, celebrant. Interment will be inResthavenGardensof Memory. He is survived by his two daughters, Cynthia "Cindy" Rome Estep of Baton Rouge, and Verna Louise Rome Turner and husband Ronnie of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; a son, William Daniel "Danny" Rome and wife Cindy Ward Rome of Lakeland; five grandchildren, Louise Y'vonne Estep Futch and husband Landon of Baton Rouge, Jeremy Paul Turner and wife Billie of Prairieville, Thyra Marie Turner Caverly and husband Shannon of Shreveport, Joshua Karl Rome of Baton Rouge, and Jacob Daniel Rome of Lakeland; seven great-grandchildren, Courtney Pastorick, Kristina LeJuene, Ben LeJuene, Connor Futch, Emma and Abbie Turner, and Caroline Caverly; and a brother, W.J. Rome of Baker. Pallbearers will be Jeremy P. Turner, Joshua K. Rome, Jacob D. Rome, Landon T. Futch, Ronnie N. Turner and Edmund Capello. Honorary pallbearers are Shannon Caverly, Ben LeJuene and Connor Futch. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce Norder Rome; grandson, Joseph "Joey" Michael Estep; parents, Sidney and Alita Rome; a brother, Irvin L. Rome; and a sister, Bernice Rome Williams. "Tonkey," as he liked to be called, loved being around his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved to spend time with his devoted and constant companion, his dog "Smokey." He also leaves behind many other family members and friends.
