"A native of Sheboygan, WI and resident of Baton Rouge, Stephen Bensman passed away at home on Thursday, January 4, 2018. He was 79 and a retired LSU Research Librarian with 35 years of service. Stephen proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Miriam Roza Bensman; and a sister, Sandra Silverstein. He was preceded in death by his parents, Solomon and Leah Zion Bensman. Stephen was a long time, devoted congregant of Beth Shalom Synagogue who helped provide for the synagogue's continued spiritual and physical health. He was a renowned library scientist and a prolific researcher. One of Stephen's endearing legacies will be his contributions to the LSU Library and the Wisconsin Historical Society. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, January 5, 2018, at Liberal Cemetery conducted by Rabbi Natan D. Trief.
