Susan Benham LeJeune, 75 years old, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many, was welcomed to her eternal home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday February 9, 2022. Born to Evelyn Porter Smith and Forest Smith in Crowley, Louisiana. Susan was an English major at Southern University, was President of the Golden Triangle Unpublished Authors Guild, foregoing an opportunity for publication which required abdicating her position, she elected instead to help other authors become published. She worked as a secretary and a medical transcriptionist for many years until her eyesight made it impossible.
She enjoyed performing, whether it was as her Crazy Daisy the Clown character or any other role she adopted, she was well known for bringing joy to young and old alike. In later years she operated a snack bar in the Randolph-Sheppard Vendors of America Program for the blind at a state facility in Monroe, Louisiana. During and immediately after Hurricane Katrina, she provided free meals and smiles to those evacuating from New Orleans. Susan will be forever remembered for her fun-loving nature and generosity; her clever wit and warm personality.
She is survived by her son, Tom Virden of Phoenix, Arizona; her “Gambees”: Sarah, Daniel and Alice Virden and Ashley LeJeune, her sister Billie Joyce Porter Stelly and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family at Greenoaks Funeral Home, Baton Rouge, La for her “home- going celebration” Saturday February 19, 2022 officiated by Minister Chris Simms. Visitation at noon followed by a memorial service at 1:00pm.
