Susan Wendler Wilder

Susan attended Dufrocq Elementary School, Baton Rouge Junior High School and Baton Rouge High School, and she graduated from LSU in 1966. Following college, she worked at Delgado Collage in New Orleans as a Vocational Evaluator. Susan was a member of the LSU Home Economics Alumni Association where she was intimately involved with the testing and production of the Louisiana Tiger Bait cookbook. In the Junior League of Baton Rouge, she chaired production of the River Roads Recipes cookbook. Susan hosted cooking demonstrations at Magnolia Mound Plantation alongside her good friend Jeanne Yerger Schmidt for 32 years. She was a member of the Rings and Ivy Sunday school class at First United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Susan loved traveling, needlepoint work, cooking, hosting festive parties, and especially retreating to her husband’s Minnesota cabin.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Harold William “Windy” Wendler.

She is survived by John McKay Wilder, Michael Henry Ory (Alyce), Wendy Elaine Ory Cappiello (John), Willa Wendler Roof (Marvin), Lawson Cook Wilder (Leland), Carrie Sue Wilder Carrique (Javier), as well as eleven grandchildren: Louise, Henry, and James Ory; Carly, Sarah and Rachel Cappiello; Scott and Nicole Wilder; Claire, Brennan and Madeline Carrique; and friend of over 60 years Jeanne Yerger Schmidt.

Visitation will be held at First United Methodist Church, 930 North Boulevard, in the Ory Parish Hall, Saturday September 12 at 11:00 am, followed by a service at 12:00 pm conducted by Reverand Don Cottrill.
