Sybil Templet Rhodes passed away peacefully on September 23, 2023 at the age of 78. Sybil was a graduate of Port Allen High School, where she met her husband, John Brent Rhodes, Sr. She graduated from LSU with a Master’s in Education and Exercise Physiology. She then taught at Broadmoor High School until the birth of her first child, and after that spent many years coaching volleyball and basketball, having especially loved coaching her children. Tennis was an integral part of Sybil’s life. She spent most of her time on the tennis court at Bocage Racquet Club, and it was not uncommon to find here playing a match just after completing chemotherapy. She is survived by her three children, Paige Giavotella (Jeff), Courtney McGraw (David), and Dr. John Brent Rhodes Jr. (Brooke); her grandchildren, Brenton Buckles, Emmeline, John Brent, Catherine, and Philip Rhodes; step-grandchildren, Brandon, Ty, and Tess McGraw. She is also survived by her siblings, Paul Templet (Jami) and Donna Conrad and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Brent Rhodes Sr.; and her parents Viola and Sebastian Templet. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home on Government Street, Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 5pm until 8pm. Visitation will resume Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 9am until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Joseph Cathedral. The celebrant will be the Very Reverend Paul D. Counce. Her nephew, Deacon J. Brian Bergeron will deliver the Homily. The pallbearers will be her treasured nephews. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. The family requests everyone wear color, as Sybil would have wanted to celebrate her life.
