

"Sylvia Anne Hernandez Jeansonne stepped peacefully into the white light of eternity on January 3, 2017. With family by her side, our matriarch was released from her earthly bonds to be enfolded into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father. Our "Mum" was born on April 21, 1929 to A. Prince Hernandez and Bessie Bergeron Hernandez at Our Lady of the Lake hospital in Baton Rouge. She attended Sacred Heart School, St. Joseph's Academy and LSU and married Robert Louis Jeansonne in 1948 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. She taught first and second grades at St. Thomas More School for 11 years and taught adult students to read in Operation Upgrade Program. She also trained teachers in the Laubach reading method. Mrs. Jeansonne was a past president of Encore of Baton Rouge Newcomers and co-owner, with her husband, of Hernandez Ice Company. She was a proud homemaker in Louisiana, California, Ohio and Bavaria, Germany. Together with her husband and children, she lived in Bad Kissingen, Bavaria, Germany while her husband served as an officer in the 631st Army Field Artillery Battalion. She was a faithful member of St. George Catholic Church and was the beloved matriarch of her family, focusing on her husband and children, her faith, music, reading and anything lemon. Mrs. Jeansonne is survived by her children, Dr. James Louis Jeansonne and wife Kathleen Elizabeth Allement Jeansonne of Baton Rouge, Wendy Anne Jeansonne and husband David R. Dargo, Jr. of Scottsdale, Arizona and Stephen Prince Jeansonne and wife Nancy O'Brien Green Jeansonne of Lacombe, Louisiana. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Lindsey Anne Jeansonne and husband James Robert McKennan of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Stephanie Marie Jeansonne and husband Billy Tullier, James Robert Jeansonne and wife Paige Roberts Jeansonne, Kathleen Elizabeth Jeansonne of Baton Rouge and Skye O'Brien Jeansonne of Lacombe, Louisiana. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Pilot Cooper Jeansonne and Ronin James Jeansonne of Baton Rouge and Jordan Jeansonne McKennan of Rancho Cucamonga, California. She is also survived by two sisters, Janet H. LeJeune of Baton Rouge, Sherri H. Olenick and husband Andrew Olenick of LeRoy, New York and two brothers-in-law, Dr. William O. Jeansonne and wife Stephenie Campbell Jeansonne of Mobile, Alabama, and Richard W. Bartol of Baton Rouge. She is also survived by three godchildren, George R. Lamy, Jr., Matthew Bartol of Baton Rouge and David Tinnes of Webster, New York as well as Sue Ann Netherland of Dallas, Texas and many other nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband and life-long love of 64 years, Robert Louis Jeansonne, her parents, A. Prince Hernandez and Bessie Bergeron Hernandez, and parents-in-law Beverly and Estelle Jeansonne, sister-in-law Beverly J. Bartol and brothers-in-law George R. Lamy, Sr. and Lawrence A. LeJeune. The family gratefully acknowledges the loving care provided by her doctors and the Hospice of Baton Rouge. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst East Funeral Home on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and at St. George Catholic Church on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow on the grounds of St. George Catholic Church.
