Sylvia Ruthine Foster Simmons. Born October 6th 1928 in Vick Louisiana. Passed away June 3rd 2021. After graduating from High School, she attended Business School in Baton Rouge. She worked as an Administrative Assistant for the office of The Louisiana Commissioner of Insurance for many years until her Retirement. She was preceded in Death by her parents Ethel and Ephie Foster and husband Ashford H Simmons. She is survived by daughters Sandra Jean Simmons MD, Sharlee S Shuford, Darlene S Simmons JD, and Denise Simmons Nix , brother Claude Foster (wife Mary Foster), and grandchildren Emily Jean Frachtling and Allan Shuford. The Funeral Service will be held in Baton Rouge at Grace Baptist Church on Monday June 7th at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Grace Baptist Church, 630 Richland Ave., Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70806 or www.gracemidcity.com. Interment will be at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers include Sandra Jean Simmons, Emily Jean Frachtling, Sharlee S Shuford, Allan Foster Shuford, Denise S Nix, and Rusty Brecheen. It has been said that at the end of life, what matters most is to have loved and been loved. Sylvia loved and was loved by fellow Residents and Staff at Williamsburg Senior Living where she resided since 2017. Everyone there spoke of her sweet smile and kindness. She loved and was loved by her fellow Poker players whom she joined every Monday,Wednesday and Friday and who each told her that they loved her and would miss her dearly even though she regularly took their money in the high stakes nickel ante games as she was a very skilled Poker player. She was a long time member of Grace Baptist Church and treasured and was treasured by her spiritual community there over many decades She was a beloved neighbor, friend, and co-worker. She fiercely loved and was loved by her family. All who knew her spoke of her sweet radiant smile through which Love shone like the Rays of the Sun.
