Mrs. Sylvia Marizuya de Weishaupt, age 87, passed away on April 30,2025. She was born in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala and resided in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Sylvia was retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. Over the course of her life, she also worked as a teacher and as a flight attendant for Pan American Airlines. She was a devout Catholic. She helped found a day care center for the children of impoverished single mothers in her hometown of Quetzaltenango. She also helped with the Hispanic Apostolate of The Diocese of Baton Rouge and Club Hispano.
Sylvia is survived by her sons, Thomas and Pablo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; her father, Alfonso; her mother, Carmen and her sister, Aída.
Sylvia did not want a visitation or a service. There will be a Mass given in her name at St. George Catholic Church in Baton Rouge on Saturday, May 17th at 6:00 PM.
