Tanya Lippman Murray of Randallstown, Maryland, 78-years-old, passed away peacefully at Gilchrist Hospice, Towson, Maryland, on April 25, 2023. She was born on November 2, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and had fond memories of her childhood spent in Weeks Island, New Iberia, and Reserve, Louisiana. She graduated from Benton High School, Benton, Arkansas, and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of Tennessee.
Tanya had a remarkable 53-year career as a dental hygienist, most notably for over 44 years with Dr. Lawrence Whitney’s dental practice in Hampstead, Maryland. She was highly respected for her professional excellence, caring, and vivacious personality. In 2021, she was honored by Carroll County's Northern News for her contributions as one “of the true giants in our community.”
Tanya was kind, generous, loving, and a supporter of the performing arts – from Broadway to classical symphony, opera, and dance. At age 7, Tanya lost her mother to cancer. Her mother’s connection to the arts inspired Tanya’s appreciation and love for the performing and visual arts. Tanya tirelessly gave support as a hands-on volunteer for the performing and fine arts, in Baltimore, where she lived, and shared her passion for the arts.
Tanya cherished most the loving relationship with her daughter, Dr. Shannon Murray, and a wide circle of many dear friends including Patrick Albright; and Mary and Charlie Gontkovic. Tanya is survived by her daughter, Dr. Shannon Murray; brother, Darryl Lippman and sister-in-law, Lynn Lippman; and her nieces and nephews, Karen Lippman Schneider, John Lippman, Marc Lippman, David Lippman and Beth Busbice. Preceding her in death were her former husband, Ray Murray; her parents, Alfred Lippman, Jr and Dorothy Kahn Lippman; brother Alfred S. Lippman and sister-in-law Gail Poche Lippman.
A Celebration of Life for Tanya was held on June 3, 2023, in Manchester, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that a donation be made in Tanya’s memory to Smile Train or Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
The Graveside Service and Interment will be held Sunday, November 5, 2023, 11am at Jewish Cemetery, Baton Rouge, 1415 North St, Baton Rouge, LA 70806, officiated by Rabbi Barry Weinstein. Tanya will be interred with her mother, Dorothy Kahn Lippman. Arrangements made by Rabenhorst Funeral Homes.
