
On the 15th day of December 2006, Thelma passed on to a better place. She was surrounded by loved ones when she went peacefully at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Debbie Sharkey. She was born on March 9, 1916. She was 90 years young, a native of Hillsdale and a resident of Baton Rouge. She was retired from the Insurance Rating Commission of Louisiana and she was a most devoted wife, mother and friend. She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star, the Joy Club and Friendship Club. She had been a charter member ofGoodwoodBaptistChurchsince 1953. She was also a faithful member of the Bible study group and a champion Skip-Bo player. Thelma is survived by her son, L. Earl Sharkey; brothers, Frank Courtney and Oliver "Bud" Courtney; sister, Mildred Miller; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she cherished and loved with all her heart. Thelma was preceded in death by her loving husband, whom she has finally been reunited with, Robert Sharkey; son, Tommy Sharkey; and daughter, Bobbie Jean Whitaker. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Sunday, Dec. 17, was from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home Monday, Dec. 18, from 10 a.m. until religious service in the chapel at 1:30 p.m., conducted by her grandson, the Rev. Keith Teekel, and the Rev. Mitch Harris, pastor. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Brent Dunlap, Roger Mitchell, Wayne Miller, David Courtney, Robert "Bobby" Courtney and Dale Garner. She touched the lives of everyone she has met and will forever be in our hearts and minds. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Southern Care Inc., 4324 S.
