
A resident of Baton Rouge, he passed away Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, at age 88 at home after a lengthy battle with cancer. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Friday, Aug. 26, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Ave., at 1:30 p.m., concelebrated by the Revs. Miles Walsh, Vic Messina and Mike Moroney. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lucille "Babe" Manno Andre, and their daughter, Becky Andre Bourgeois; two grandsons, Andy J. Bourgeois and his wife, Rachel Mourot, and Corey J. Bourgeois; two great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life and could always make him "feel all better," Brody J. Bourgeois and Claire E. Bourgeois; a sister, Stella Andre Bergeron; brother-in-law, Leo C. Scallan Sr.; sister-in-law, Vita D. Manno; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Theogene Andre Sr. and Lucille Soulier Andre; son-in-law, Michael J. Bourgeois; brothers-in-law, Kelly "Tootsie" Manno, Frank "Honey" Manno, Sanders Beyer, Ellis Parker, Joe Campagna and Patrick Bergeron; and sisters-in-law, Josephine "Phinnie" Manno, Mary Manno, Laura Manno Beyer, Rose Manno Campagna, Lena "Dolly" Manno Scallan; Rosalie Manno Parker; and Phillipine L. Manno. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews, Andy J. Bourgeois, Corey J. Bourgeois, Glynn Bergeron, Jimmy Parker, Chuck Scallan and Jimmy Manno. Junior or "T," as he was called by family and friends, was born in Blanks, graduated from Rougon High School and attended LSU. He served in the Navy in World War II as a water tender first class on the USS Baldwin, which was a fire-support, patrol and escort vessel during the landings at Omaha Beach between June 6, 1944, and July 15, 1944. He was employed for 49 years as a construction superintendent, working 23 years for Perilliat and Rickey Construction Co., 10 years with Bob Finley Co., and 16 years for Milton J. Womack Inc. After retiring for the second time from Womack Inc., he volunteered many hours at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic school and church, helping with the maintenance of the church and school facilities. He was inducted in the Our Lady of Mercy Hall of Fame on Sept. 11, 1997. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and Usher Society of Our Lady of Mercy Church. Special thanks to his doctors, Dr. Gerald Miletello, Dr. Robert Taylor and Hospice of Baton Rouge, who have all made this journey a bit more bearable. Heartfelt thanks to his sitters, Dehlia Carney, Zoia Olivier and Janice Cesar, for their love and care to our entire family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Baton Rouge, Catholic High School, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , Our Lady of Mercy Catholic church and school or a charity of your choice.
