Theophile "Paul" Rozas, 82, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at his home surrounded by his wife and family after a long battle with dementia. He was a native of Cottonport, LA and long-time resident of Baton Rouge since 1969. Paul graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Louisiana Lafayette in 1962. Prior to university, he served in the Army as military police at SHAPE headquarters in Versailles, France. Paul spent his 30-year professional career with the Dow Chemical Company where he retired from Dow Chemical’s Plaquemine plant in 1992. Paul was an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. After retirement, he enjoyed attending daily mass, spending time with his grandsons, cooking, entertaining family and friends, tracking the stock market, horseracing and solving Sudoku puzzles. Paul was married for 58 years to his beloved wife Emma Tassin also of Cottonport. He is survived by Emma; daughter Tracey McGoey and husband John; daughter Angie Rozas; son Glen Rozas; grandsons Chuck and Sean McGoey; sister, Joan Thevenot; brother, Ken Rozas and wife Trudy; sister-in-law Mary Lou Rozas; sister-in-law Jackie Slocum and husband Norris; and numerous nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his son Kevin Rozas MD; parents, Walter and Elnora Rozas; sisters, Rachel Gaspard, Barbara Reid and Alice Ducote; brothers, Roderic "Buster" Rozas and Eugene Rozas. Paul’s wife and family wish to express their appreciation to family, friends, neighbors, medical personnel, and Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge. A special thank you to Alberny Reed and nieces, Debbie and Brittany Slocum for their tireless dedication as companion caregivers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70806, on Monday, January 21, at 2:30 pm. The family will welcome visitors in the church from 1:00pm – 2:30pm before Mass. Immediately following Mass there will be a burial at Greenoaks Memorial Park on Florida Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Our Lady of Mercy Church, Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or charity of your choice.
