THOMAS DAVIS (DAVE) LANGFORDDave Langford died at age 97 in Baton Rouge on October 23, 2015 at his home in St. James Place. Memorial services are scheduled at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3552 Morning Glory Ave., at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday October 28, with visitation in the Parish Hall at 1:00 p.m.He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Billijune Few Langford, and is survived by daughter Shirley Langford Young and husband John C. Young of Baton Rouge and granddaughter Elizabeth Lauren Young, currently of Ithaca NY; daughter Amy Langford Berry and husband Patrick Berry of San Francisco; brother Dr. Richard B. Langford of Shreveport, and several nephews and nieces including Jane Henslee of Baton Rouge and Nancy Victory and Rick Langford of Shreveport.Born in 1917 in Shreveport, Dave graduated from Byrd High School in 1934 and LSU Law School in 1949. Between those years was one year at Georgia Tech, a few years at LSU, a few years in South Louisiana oil field work, and during WWII, almost four years in the Army Air Corps.After graduation from law school, Dave married Billijune in 1950 and practiced law briefly in Shreveport. In 1951, he began his petroleum exploration and management career with Murphy Oil Company in El Dorado AR. That career took him from El Dorado to Billings MT, back to El Dorado, then to assignments in London, Tokyo, Melbourne, Sydney and finally to the New Orleans office where he retired as VP, Land&Legal Services for ODECO, a Murphy subsidiary. In addition to working in his countries of residence, he traveled extensively doing joint venture work and contract negotiations in 28 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and North and South America.Following their return to the US, Dave and Billijune lived in Covington and Mandeville, and then moved to Baton Rouge in 1994. Here he was involved in the creation and functioning of Lagniappe Studies Unlimited (now OLLI at LSU) and thoroughly enjoyed attending their classes and making new friends.The family suggests that any memorial donations be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, St. James Place Foundation or the Hospice of Baton Rouge.
