Thomas G. “T.G.” Simmons, native of Zachary and resident of Baton Rouge, passed away at 5:30am, Thursday, September 5, 2013 at the Louisiana War Veterans Home at the age of 87. T.G. was retired from the Navy after 30 years, a member of the Fleet Reserve, and a longtime member and deacon at First Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Susie Simmons, and his sister, Myrtle Simmons. T.G. is survived by his wife, Betty S. Simmons; and his daughters, Rev. Cheryl L. Simmons, and Terri S. Cook and husband John. A graveside service will be 10am, Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Greenoaks Memorial Park in Baton Rouge. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Baton Rouge at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Piano Restoration Fund at First Baptist Church in Baton Rouge.
