

Thomas “Tommy” John Spano, age 61, of Baton Rouge LA, passed away on Thursday May 28th, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on January 29th, 1965, in Donaldsonville, LA, Tommy was the fifth son of parents Victor G. Spano Sr. and Doris Ferris Spano.
Tommy was a graduate of Ascension Catholic High School Class of 1983 and, later, Southeastern School of Nursing. He spent his career as a Registered Nurse at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. Tommy was well respected by his nursing peers as a model of technical skill, adaptability, and for his loving, caring demeanor. He excelled in the many specialties in which he worked, while facing his own health challenges with courage and determination.
Tommy was an avid tennis player, golfer, fisherman, and LSU sports fan. He showed his love for his many friends and family in the kitchen with exceptional dishes inspired by his Lebanese and Italian heritage.
Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Sherrie Cason Spano, his cherished daughter, Isabella Ferris Spano, and his brothers, Gregory P. Spano, Fr. Philip F. Spano, Michel “Mike” E. Spano (Richard L. Lucas III), and Victor G. Spano, Jr. (Christopher Rivel).
Tommy was preceded in death by his father and mother, Victor and Doris Spano, his maternal grandparents, Philip & Adele Ferris, and his paternal grandparents, Emile & Carmella Spano. He is also preceded in death by aunts and uncles, Margie Ferris and Samuel Ferris, Antonia Spano Constanza and Michael Constanza, John and Velma Spano, Bruno and Lena Spano, as well as many beloved cousins.
A memorial will be held on Wednesday, June 3rd from 9:00AM to 12:00PM with services at noon at Green Oaks Funeral Home & Memorial Park Chapel located at 9595 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA 70815.
Throughout his journey of 61 years, Tommy touched many lives with his wisdom, humor, sense of adventure, and unwavering perseverance. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered by all those whose lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, your favorite pet rescue organization/shelter, or your favorite charity.
