

Verna Bullock Billings, 84, a native of Glenmora, LA and a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2012. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Verna worked in retail most of her life as Controller of Roselfields Department Store, Cohn Turner, I.H. Rubenstein's, Todd Garland and retired in 2001 from Fred Parks CPA (Carline Ceismer Fleet). She was a founding member of a Mardi Gras Krewe, Krewe of Romany. She loved to sing and dance and have a good time. Verna was a beautiful, gracious Southern lady who had a thrust for life. She was known for her style and grace and she was always well put-together and people often commented on her youthful glowing appearance. She was called Nanny by her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her family very dearly and will be greatly missed. We love you Nanny! Verna is survived by her 2 children: Pamela Bailey Roy and husband Michael and Peggy Porter Thigpen; stepchild Judy Billings; grandchildren: Kimberly Bailey Faulk and husband David, Nicole Bailey Brent and husband Steve, and Kira Renee Thigpen; step-grandchild Reiley Lynn Jones; great-grandchildren: Bailey, Auldin, and Benjamin Faulk, and Avery and James Brent; sisters: Myrtle Baker and husband John, Gay Melder and husband L.J., Fay Holloway and Wanda Nelson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Howard "Huss" Billings; father of her children, Harry L. Porter; parents, Hardy and Lola Bullock; brother, J.G. Bullock; and sisters, Lorene Gormley and Melba Mayeux. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Monday, September 3, 2012 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and continuing on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 from 11 a.m. until time of service at 12 p.m. Interment will immediately follow in Resthaven Cemetery. Services will be conducted by Rev. Ken Carroll. Pallbearers will be David Faulk, Steve Brent, Sonny Melder, Michael Roy, James Holloway and Jason Bracken. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Selig, Tommy Melder, Bailey Faulk and Bill Thigpen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Broadmoor United Methodist Church.
