

Vernon Ray Amar received his wings on Sunday, November 7th 2021 at The Carpenter House at 7:30 A.M. at the age of 78, surrounded by family after a brief illness. Ray was a devoted Catholic, husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and great-uncle. He was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, where he received education from St. Francis Xavier Catholic School, McKinley High, and is a 1965 graduate of Southern University. Ray was employed as a Plastics Engineer by The Dow Chemical Company before retiring, a member of the Society of Plastics Engineers, and a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Survived by his loving wife, Patricia Bertrand Amar of 56 years; children Terri (Carlos) Decuir, Derrick and Mark Amar; grandchildren Joshua (Ahriane) and Morgan Decuir, Christian, Isabella, Madalyn, Olivia and Alexander Amar; great-grandson Matthew Oliver Decuir; brother Ralph (Beverly) Amar; sister-in-law Omergene Amar; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by parents Zachary and Bertha Bajoie Amar; sister Elaine Amar Smith; brothers Charles Amar, Sr, and Zachary Melvin Amar; and father in-law and mother in-law, Oliver and Annette Virdure Bertrand. Special thanks to the doctors and staff of The Baton Rouge Clinic, Baton Rouge General Bluebonnet 6th floor, Baton Rouge General Mid City 5th floor, and The Carpenter House of St. Joseph. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 from 10:00 A.M. until 11:15 A.M. with Kappa Alpha Psi Chapter Invisible services followed by the Rosary, with Funeral Mass at 12:00 noon at Saints Anthony of Padua & Le Van Phung Catholic Church. 2305 Choctaw Drive, Baton Rouge, La 70805.
