

Vernon Joseph Calvaruso, Sr., 72, passed away at home peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, February 16, 2012. Born November 16, 1939 he was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge. He was an avid LSU fan and loved the outdoors. He was also a huge fan of his beloved Cleveland Indians. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Amanda, sons Vernon Jr. (Bernie), and Michael and wife Stacy; grandchildren: Joey, Patrick, Kristi, Matthew and Jennifer; great grandson Bennett Joseph, A.K.A. “Bennie Da Pooh”; sister Shirley and husband Harold Lilly. Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, Joe S. Calvaruso and Effie B. Calvaruso. He was co-owner of Calvaruso Shell/Mobil service station with his father Joe. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great grandfather and husband. He will be missed dearly. A special thanks go out to his friends with the City of Baton Rouge Parking Authority for whom he worked with for 15 loyal years and loved everyone there, always coming to work with a smile and details of where he had found some new restaurant with great food. We would also like to thank the fine professional sat Fresenius medical Care in Prairieville, LA, for all your loving care for the past 2 years and the numerous doctors and nurses that assisted and treated him during his illness. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Friday, February 17, 2012 from 5pm until 9pm and continuing on Saturday, February 18, 2012 from 9am until services at 12pm. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Michael Calvaruso, Bernie Calvaruso, Joey Calvaruso, Patrick Calvaruso, Wade Lilly, and Judge Carl Guidry. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Cary and Lee Guidry.
