Virginia “Ginny” Gail Calvit, 80, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 27, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Baton Rouge on January 24, 1946, Ginny spent most of her life in the city she cherished.
She graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1964 and later retired from the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, where she served as a dedicated Teacher’s Aide. Her patience, kindness, and steady presence touched countless students over the years.
Ginny found joy in many creative hobbies throughout her life. She loved reading romance novels and short stories, crafting elaborate floral wreaths, sketching, collecting small trinkets, and practicing calligraphy. Each of these passions reflected her gentle spirit and her appreciation for beauty in everyday moments.
Some of her greatest joys came from spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great‑grandchildren. She loved to travel, fish with her son, and explore new places, but she was just as content sharing a beer and a laugh at her favorite restaurant or bar with familiar faces, or waking up for a midnight cup of coffee. Ginny welcomed everyone with an open heart. She had a remarkable way of making people feel accepted and considered most of her closest friends as family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
