Virginia Evans Carradine, born November 19, 1925 in New Orleans, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2021. She was 95. At 16 Virginia moved to Baton Rouge where she was the first of 3 generations to graduate from Baton Rouge Sr High. While working for Standard Oil, she took part in a BR Little Theater production of “Ladies of the Jury.“ There she met the love of her life, “Red” Carradine. They had 3 girls, after which Virginia did her share of homeroom mothering, PTAing, and chairing of various drives and events. Once the girls were older Virginia began a long satisfying career working for Louisiana Architects Association where she was admired and respected by all. We all wondered what retirement would look like for her. She wasted no time joining The Busy Bodies, a Brec seniors exercise group she attended for 30 years. Long lasting friendships and a variety of new activities sprang from this group of women. Virginia continued her volunteering spirit, assisting at First Methodist Church, St. John’s Methodist Church,
working at Senior Olympics events, and the LSU Book Sale. She graciously shared her home with foreign students attending LSU. Virginia discovered the writer within while taking a Life Journaling class, and she left a treasure trove of memories for her family to enjoy. She had a keen interest in LSU sports and the New Orleans Saints, but her passion was the weather and her hair, which always looked perfect. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard M “Red” Carradine, her parents, Niles P and Mary Ellen Evans, and her sister, Lenore Banks. She is survived by daughters Lu Carradine, Ginger Lipscomb (Fenton), and Cheryl Carradine. She is also survived by her “baby” brother Robert Evans (Janice), her beloved grandchildren , Britton Hailar (Eric), and Morgan Lipscomb (Brittany), great-grandchildren Dyllan and Rosie Hailar, and Calvin and Kira Lipscomb, brother-in-law Rod Banks, and her cousin Barbara Walters. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 26, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., with visitation starting at 9:00 AM, and funeral service starting at 10:30 AM. Burial will be private. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of The Haven at Windermere and the doctors, nurses, and staff of The Hospice of Baton Rouge. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to The Hospice of Baton Rouge at 3600 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, 70806, or HospiceBR.org.
