Virginia Ann Whittington

November 23, 1935 – May 28, 2025

Virginia Ann Guzzardo Whittington, age 89, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. A resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Virginia was known for her warm heart, generous spirit, and love of cooking. Virginia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Whittington; her parents, George and Josephine Guzzardo; and three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her devoted children: Vincent Whittington and wife Rhonda; Georgiana “Jana” Guthrie and husband Terry; and Robert Jeffery Whittington and wife Monica. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Natalie Newsom (Chris), Carrie Cormier (Trevor), Heather Dean, Robert Guthrie (Allison) , Kelli, and Kaci Whittington; and 18 treasured great-grandchildren.

Virginia was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and an active participant in the St. Joseph Altar at Immaculate Conception Church. She retired in 1995 from the Baton Rouge School Food Service after many years as a cafeteria manager at Shenandoah Elementary and Bernard Terrace Schools. Her dedication to nourishing both body and spirit touched countless students and colleagues over the years.

The Pallbearers will be Chris Newsom, Trevor Cormier, Robert Guthrie, Delaney Thomas, Wade Parsons, and Kaden Williams.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Virginia’s memory to one of the following organizations: Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area, American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Virginia will be remembered for the love she gave so freely, the meals she made with care, and the faith that guided her life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held at Green Oaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Tuesday, June 3rd, from 4:00 to 7:30 PM with a rosary at 6:00, and again on Wednesday, June 4th, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, followed by a Catholic funeral service and interment.
