Walter Hollis Brock, lovingly known as "Pap," a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Columbia, Miss., died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. He was 95, the son of the late Robert Dee Brock and Jimmie Sones Brock. Mr. Brock graduated from Mississippi State University where he received a degree in mechanical engineering. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served four years during World War II, including two in the Pacific Theater, and retired from the Reserves as a lieutenant colonel. He was also a retired mechanical engineer for Exxon and a very active member of the First United Methodist Church, who served on the Administrative Board, Fisherman's Club, Building and Grounds Committee and taught high school students. He was passionate about Kairos, a prison ministry where he went to many sessions at Angola State Prison and observed numerous residents accepting Christ as their Lord and Savior. Mr. Brock's favorite activities were fishing, hunting, golfing and woodworking. Visitation at First United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge on Monday, Dec. 13, from 10 a.m. until religious services at noon, with the Rev. Chris Andrews officiating. Interment will be in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Arrangements by Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Helen Ferguson Brock; daughter, Linda Claire McNabb and husband Bob; son, Alan Ferguson Brock and wife Colleen; and four grandchildren, Brian McNabb, Christopher Brock and wife Sirena, Jennifer Brock, and Whitney Claire McNabb. Pallbearers will be Brian McNabb, Christopher Brock, Bobby Brock, Tommy Brock, George Brock and Frank Smith. Honorary pallbearers are the members of Kairos Prison Ministry. The family wishes to thank his many caretakers who blessed all our lives.
